What book is on your nightstand?
The Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
Do you have anything in your home that you’ve designed/created?
I have a couple of things in my home that I have designed. I love to pick up new crafts and hobbies, so there is an ever-growing list of décor that I’ve created through crochet, knitting, and cross stitch.
What inspired you to go into your line of work?
I have always had a passion for the built environment. I originally started college as a Pre-Architecture major because I have always loved model making and building; however, after learning more about the profession, I learned that the scope of the building I enjoyed working on the most actually fell under the interior designer’s responsibilities. Having the ability to affect one’s perceptions of an environment they spend most of their time within is such a rewarding experience.
What type/niche of design are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about educational environments. I have always had a love for school and teaching, so being able to influence the interior environments for the next generation of students always puts a smile to my face. I hope to make learning environments as fun and engaging as possible for students of all backgrounds.
What are the last five songs you’ve listened to?
The last five songs that I’ve listened to include Defying Gravity from the Wicked Movie Soundtrack, Truth Beauty Freedom Love from Moulin Rouge, I Don’t Need Your Love from SIX, It’s My Life from& Juliet, and Revenge Party from Mean Girls. (Definitely a Broadway lover at heart!)
How have you found IIDA invaluable?
I have found IIDA invaluable for a multitude of reasons. I love being able to connect and network with other interior designers in the area. Additionally, there have been a few events where we have been allowed to tour projects in the Des Moines metro. These have been wonderful learning opportunities to talk with the designers and learn from their processes.
